Banks Leads Colts to Huge Lead
"Mr Colt" Player of the Month
CHICAGO (June 30) -- Shortstop Ernie Banks was UL Player of the Month for June, posting a .411 average and 26 RBIs in 24 games.  Chicago was 19-7 in June, building a 12-game West Division lead and overtaking Brooklyn for the best record in the league.
Banks, 31, has won six BOMs, four POWs, and 74 POGs in his 10-year career.  The 1st overall pick in the 1953 draft, Banks has posted six straight 30 HR-100 RBI seasons and has a career .307 batting average (9th best all-time).

Maris Slam Stuns Colts
CHICAGO (June 21) -- Roger Maris hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to give St. Louis a 10-9 win over Chicago.  Maris' slam, his 19th home run of the year, capped a rally that turned back a 6-0 and 9-5 deficits.  The salami came off closer Don Elston, who suffered his sixth loss.
