1970 FOUNDER'S CUP
Texans Seek Repeat
Toppers, Feds Win Groups
SAN FRANCISCO (July 5) -- In an exciting final day of round-robin group play, the Dallas Texans kept alive their bid for a repeat Founder's Cup title, downing Washington 3-1 behind the strong pitching of Jack Billingham.  Dallas bounced back from an opening day 8-1 loss to Boston, winning three straight to finish second in Group B, including a pair of shutout wins anchored by Wade Blasingame and Wayne Simpson.  Boston took the group with a 8-5 win over Cleveland after chasing Alan Foster with an early 7-2 lead.

The Atlanta Hilltoppers were the first team to clinch, winning on each of the first three days of Group A on a pair of comeback rallies and a Steve Barber shutout.  The second place berth came down to the last game between Chicago and Detroit, with the Griffins snatching a 10th-inning victory on Dick Allen's two-run single.

The semifinal matchups pit Dallas against Atlanta and Boston against Detroit.
